IssueThings is a brand worth checking out — it's difficult to find, especially outside of Japan, with fantastic design and a level of quality that exceeds our already high standards. Originally founded in 2020, their pieces are unisex, often coming in only one size and cut generously for a relaxed fit, with contemporary styles inspired by everything from countercultural youth movements to vintage military surplus.
The Type 70 Jacket is loosely inspired by US Military trench coats, with a double-breasted placket, wide lapels, and a full length body. The flat nickel buttons throughout give it a more casual and modern feel, closing up the front, pockets, and the adjustable straps behind the elasticated cuffs. Beneath the collar, there's a hidden chin-strap that can be used to fasten the neck closed as protection from the elements.
It's made from a custom heavyweight 100% cotton moleskin with a washed finish. Dense and sturdy, it has a slight shine throughout that will very gradually fade with time, and not evenly throughout the body, developing a unique patina as a result of wear. It's also quite wind-resistant and decently water-resistant, as much as a cotton fabric can be — which we do not mean as a slight to cotton, but rather to emphasize that this particular fabric does a very good job.
It comes in just one size, with an exaggerated and oversized fit to allow for unisex styling. Ideal for layering and as an outer shell, the coat itself is not extraordinarily warm, taking on a more protective role while you rely on whatever you've layered beneath it for most of your insulation.
